More than 7,000 walkers participated in the Avon Argentina Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer event on October 22, 2005 in the country capital of Buenos Aires. The streets overflowed with supporters and created tremendous awareness as they took over De Puerto Madero, one of the most central streets in all of Buenos Aires.

Avon Bolivia held their first-ever event to raise awareness for the issue of breast cancer on Saturday, October 29, 2005 in the capital city of Santa Cruz. The event helped spread the important message of early detection and worked to break the stigma of breast cancer. As the two breast cancer survivors stood in solidarity, they provided a clear message that while breast cancer knows no borders; neither does our effort to fight it.

The Avon Brazil Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer event in Sao Paulo on October 11, 2005 attracted more than 5,000 people and raised $1 million pesos. Avon Associates, Representatives, members of the community, state health officials and top musician Luaiana Mello came together to generate meaningful awareness and funds to help fight breast cancer throughout the country. Brazilian breast cancer survivor Maria da Guarda Ferreira found her lump at the age of 29 after reading an Avon breast cancer awareness brochure.

Avon Canada expanded their ongoing support of the breast cancer cause on October 12, 2005 when more than 300 people walked the streets of Montreal holding pink balloons to generate awareness of the breast cancer issue. Participants were joined by the ever popular Avon Breast Cancer Bear, who is sold throughout the year to raise funds for the Canadian Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. In addition to their awareness walk, Avon Canada raised more than US$21,488 through an internal fundraising contest, to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Association to further the fight against breast cancer.

On October 19, 2005, Avon Chile held its first public event in support of the breast cancer cause – a reception in the capital city of Santiago for Avon Associates and special guests from the community that commemorated the Avon Foundation’s 50th Anniversary. At the event, Avon Chile announced their support of Fundación Arturo López Pérez, a local leader in the fight against breast cancer. The event helped spread breast cancer awareness and worked to change perceptions about and stigmas associated with a breast cancer diagnosis.

Avon Mexico’s incredible success with the Crusade Against Cancer in Women marked its 11th year with their largest walk to date. On October 2, 2005 in Mexico City, Mexico more than 8,000 participants paraded in pink down the most important street of the city, Paseo de la Reforma. The participants raised awareness for the breast cancer cause as well as $1 million pesos, making it the most successful event in the history of Avon Mexico.

Breast Cancer Survivor Participant: Visitor survivor and Avon associate from the U.S., Debra Cooley passed on the final Global Connection Ribbon to local survivor Margarita Pancorvo de Del Solar, who is also an Avon Zone Manager
Avon Peru celebrated in Lima with a Walk/Run on October 30, 2005. Women and girls filled city streets as they walked in support of this important issue. The event which culminated at the most famous square in Lima, Plaza de Armas, attracted about 3,000 participants and was attended by civic officials. Closing ceremonies included performances by both traditional and contemporary Peruvian dancers and singers. This was the final passing of the Global Connection Ribbon which visited more than 30 countries throughout the month of October.

On October 1, 2005 Avon Puerto Rico partnered with the American Cancer Society for their annual breast cancer walk in Cagaus. The event, which was held on the first of International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, was successful in raising much needed awareness and funds that will be critical to the continued success in the global fight against breast cancer. The well-attended event was covered by one of the most important newspapers in Puerto Rico - El Nuevo Día –to help further spread breast cancer awareness.

The third annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series took place in eight US cities from April through October, culminating with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer New York on October 1-2, which represented the US component of the Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer. Each Avon Walk is a 39.3-mile journey over a weekend, including overnight camping in the Avon Walk “Wellness Village.” The Avon Walk New York this year attracted over 2,700 participants and raised US$7 million. From 2003-2005 the US Avon Walk for Breast Cancer events have raised more than $100 million for access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer.

At the conclusion of the Avon Walk New York, US breast cancer survivor, Karen Borkowsky, traveled to São Paulo, Brazil to pass the Connection Ribbon to Maria da Guarda Ferreira, a Brazilian breast cancer survivor and Avon Representative. Later in the month, Karen was joined by five other breast cancer survivors, each of whom had represented their countries in the Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer, as honored guests at the Avon Foundation 50th Anniversary Gala in New York City.
