The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer kicks off the 2007 season with a series of special “Great Start Party” events in all eight Walk cities. The fun, informative events all take place on Saturday, January 27, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in each Avon Walk city: Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington, DC. At the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer “Great Start Party,” individuals and teams can register to walk or crew for the 2007 events (which take place May-October), meet other participants, find out about training walks, learn about the impact of past funds raised and much, much more. For returning participants, including the intrepid group once again participating in all eight events, it’s an opportunity to share memories and renew friendships.

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is an annual noncompetitive event which offers women and men a choice of walking a marathon (26.2 miles) or a marathon and a half (39.3 miles) over a weekend to raise money and awareness to fight breast cancer. There are eight Avon Walks taking place in 2007.

About the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer
The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is a series of eight events produced by the Avon Foundation [a 501(c)(3) public charity] which offer women and men a choice of completing a marathon walk (26.2 miles) or a marathon and a half (39.3 miles) over a weekend. The noncompetitive events are structured for all fitness levels and usually attract people from 30-40 states. After completing the first part of their journey Saturday, participants camp out overnight at a “Wellness Village,” their home away from home for the night, complete with hot meals, entertainment, volunteer massage therapy and medical services. From 2003 through 2006, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer events raised more than $150 million. Funds raised at Avon Walks are distributed through the Avon Foundation to both local and national organizations to advance access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer. Funds support five areas of the breast cancer cause, with a focus on serving the medically underserved and minorities: awareness and education, screening and diagnosis, access to treatment, support services, and scientific research.
