About the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer
The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is a series of eight noncompetitive events produced by the Avon Foundation [a 501(c)(3) public charity] which offers women and men of all fitness levels a choice of walking a marathon (26.2 miles) or a marathon and a half (39.3 miles) over a weekend. After completing the first part of their journey Saturday, participants camp out overnight at “Wellness Village,” their home away from home for the night, complete with hot meals, entertainment and comprehensive medical services. On Sunday, walkers continue the final 13.1 miles of their journey and are joined by family and friends at an inspirational closing ceremony, during which local grants will be announced. An all volunteer crew provides support every step of the way.

From 2003 to 2006 the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series raised more than $150 million. To participate in an Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, each walker commits to raising a minimum of $1,800 in donations. Upon registration, walkers are assigned a “Walker Buddy,” a staff member to help with fundraising questions and developing a training plan, and to offer advice leading up to the Event. Walkers also receive a personal Walk Handbook full of fundraising and training tips as well as an interactive website, local training walks and more. Participants can also serve on the volunteer crew.

The Avon Walk thanks National Sponsor: Prevention Magazine, Official Sponsors: Airplus for her, Genentech BioOncology, Novartis Oncology and Reebok, and Official Water: FIJI.
