Avon and Avon Foundation Respond to Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

(New York, August 31, 2005) – As part of our commitment to quickly and effectively respond to national and international disasters, Avon Products, Inc. and the Avon Foundation are supporting the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts with several initiatives, including the following:

  • $350,000 cash donation
  • Product donations have been shipped from the Avon Atlanta facility.
  • A special fundraising Heart of America Key Chain launched in late September, and will be available from Avon Sales Representatives and at www.avon.com. The two inch silvertone Key Chain is in the shape of the U.S with red, white and blue enamel accents. It will be affordably priced at $5.00, with proceeds above cost of goods (75%) donated to hurricane relief efforts.
  • Avon Products, Inc. has also developed a program of fundraising “Disaster Relief Gifts in Kind Bundles” to provide assistance while raising additional funds. Each “Disaster Relief Bundle” includes five personal care products valued at $20.00 but priced at only $10.00 that can be purchased through Avon Sales Representatives. Avon contributes $4 to hurricane relief for every “Disaster Relief Bundle” sold, and ships the bundles directly to the affected communities.
  • Avon Associate (employee) contributions to charitable organizations will be matched through the Avon Foundation Matching Gifts Program, which matches contributions on a 2:1 basis up to $250 and, above this amount on a 1:1 basis, up to $7,500 per calendar year. A communication was sent to all US-based Avon associates with information on qualified relief agencies and an expedited matching gifts process.

We are confident that the “Hurricane Relief Product Bundles” and new fundraising Key Chain will raise much-needed funds for ongoing support of the people affected by Hurricane Katrina. Thanks to the dedication of Avon Sales Representatives and customers, in the past years, Avon fundraising products have quickly raised millions of dollars to assist the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks and the tsunami in Southeast Asia, as well as the families of those lost in military action in Iraq and Afghanistan.

All Avon associates in the affected areas are accounted for, although the floods have directly affected several District Sales Managers who have lost their homes. The Avon Atlanta facility is working to provide assistance to these individuals and their families.
