Since it was founded in 1955, the Avon Foundation has been committed to the mission to improve the lives of women and their families. Now past the half century milestone, the Avon Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity that brings this mission to life through two key areas of focus: breast cancer and domestic violence. From initial $400 scholarship in 1955, Avon philanthropy has expanded globally and in 2006 exceeded $500 million raised and awarded worldwide.
Breast Cancer
The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade launched in 1992 in the UK and now includes breast cancer programs in more than 50 countries focused on advancing access to care and finding a cure. While progress has been made, breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide, and in the US there is a new diagnosis every three minutes. Numerous Avon Crusade programs raise funds and awareness for the cause, such as the US
Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series, the global Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer and the sale of Crusade pink ribbon products worldwide.
Through 2006 the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade has raised and awarded more than $450,000,000 worldwide to make a significant and lasting difference in five critical areas: awareness and education; screening and diagnosis; access to treatment; support services; and scientific research, all with a focus on the medically underserved. Beneficiaries range from leading cancer centers to community-based non-profit breast health programs, creating a powerful international network of research, medical, social service and community-based organizations focused on defeating breast cancer and ensuring access to care.

Domestic Violence
In 2004 the Avon Foundation launched the Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program, which expanded a long history of Avon grassroots support of the domestic violence cause. The
Speak Out program supports awareness, education, direct services and prevention programs for victims, including a special funding initiative for helping children affected by domestic violence. In the first two years of
Speak Out, more than $4,000,000 was awarded to domestic violence organizations across the US, and global expansion was initiated with the launch of
Speak Out in Mexico, which won awards for their first public service announcement.
The Foundation partnered with Oscar-nominated actress and producer/director Salma Hayek to launch the
Speak Out program, including public service announcements featuring Salma which ran pro bono in leading magazines. In June 2006 the inaugural fundraising
Need for Speed: Relay Against Domestic Violence took place in Westchester, New York with honorary team captain Joe Torre, Manager of the New York Yankees, and in 2007 the
Need for Speed Relay program will expand to encompass additional events. Funds are also raised through the sale of
Speak Out fundraising products by dedicated Avon Sales Representatives.

Special Projects
The Avon Foundation and Avon Products Inc. together respond quickly to national and international emergencies, and since 2001 have awarded $12,000,000 for women and their families affected by natural disaster or crises. Initiatives include in 2001 the sale of special pins by Avon Sales Representatives in the wake of the September 11 attacks, which raised $7,000,000 for the
Avon Heart of America Fund to support families, especially children, of those lost in the attacks. Since 2003, the
Avon Yellow Ribbon Pin has raised $3,000,000 to assist families of servicemen and women lost or wounded in Iraq and other armed conflict. In response to the December 2004 tsunami disaster in southeast Asia, the Avon Foundation immediately awarded $550,000 to the relief efforts, and Avon launched the fundraising
Heart of Asia Pin, bringing total donations to more than $1 million. In response to the hurricane disasters in fall 2005, Avon and the Avon Foundation made cash donations of nearly $1 million, provided 20 truckloads of products, and created the
Heart of America Key Chain, which is sold by Avon Sales Representatives to raise additional funds for relief and rebuilding efforts.
