Since it was founded in 1955, the Avon
Foundation has been committed to the mission to improve the lives of
women and their families. Now past the half century milestone, the
Avon Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity that brings this
mission to life through two key areas of focus: breast cancer and
domestic violence. From the initial $400 scholarship in 1955, Avon
philanthropy has expanded globally and through 2009 exceeded $725 million raised and awarded worldwide.
Breast Cancer
The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade launched in 1992 in the UK and now includes breast cancer programs in more than 50 countries focused on advancing access to care and finding a cure. While progress has been made, breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide, and in the US there is a new diagnosis every three minutes. Numerous Avon Crusade programs raise funds and awareness for the cause, such as the US
Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series, the global Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer and the sale of Crusade pink ribbon products worldwide.
Through 2009 the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade has raised and awarded more than $725 million worldwide to make a significant and lasting difference in five critical areas: awareness and education; screening and diagnosis; access to treatment; support services; and scientific research, all with a focus on the medically underserved. Beneficiaries range from leading cancer centers to community-based non-profit breast health programs, creating a powerful international network of research, medical, social service and community-based organizations focused on defeating breast cancer and ensuring access to care.

Domestic Violence
The Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program launched in 2004 to help end the cycle of domestic violence, with a focus on children affected by violence. Through the end of 2009 in the US alone we have awarded over $12 million to more than 400 domestic violence organizations for awareness, education, direct services and prevention programs. Funds and awareness are raised through the sale of special products, magazine Public Service Announcements and
Walk the Course Against Domestic Violence, a new
fundraising event launched this year. Global expansion began with an award-winning
Speak Out program in Mexico and has since expanded to more than 50 Avon countries.
Special Projects
The Avon Foundation for Women and Avon Products, Inc. together respond quickly to national and international emergencies, and since 2001 more than
$17 million has been awarded for women and their families affected by natural disaster or crises, including: the
Avon Heart of America Fund to support families of those lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001; the
Avon Yellow Ribbon Fund to assist military service personnel lost or wounded in Iraq and other armed conflict; the
Heart of Asia campaign to assist victims of the tsunami in southeast Asia; extensive fundraising and product donations for relief efforts following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; and most recently aid for relief and reconstruction efforts following the earthquake in China in 2008.
